Dr. Shelby Agnew

Dr. Blaine O'ReillyDr. Shelby Agnew is a Birmingham native who comes to us by way of Newnan, Georgia. She graduated from Auburn University with her BS in Animal and Dairy Science in 2009 and her DVM in 2013. She started at McCurdy Animal Hospital in 2015.

Dr. Agnew's passion for veterinary medicine started at an early age, inspired by the writings of author and country vet James Herriot. She has enjoyed unique opportunities to work with "all creatures great and small," from horses and pigs to snakes and giraffes, but her true love is strengthening the human/animal bond between clients and their pets with her work in small animal medicine.

When she's not at work, Dr. Agnew is hitting the trails at Monte Sano with Herriot, her Malamute mix. She and her husband Jordan also enjoy taking road trips, whether driving cross-country or just discovering new places in Huntsville. In addition to Herriot, they have two beagles, Stella and Joule, who both prefer snuggling on the couch to hiking or traveling.
